Picture of Fleischers Hotel 1889

To the left is a picture of Fleischers Hotel as it looked when Martin Morrison took this photo back at the very beginning of this wonderful historic hotel that is still run by the Fleischer family today! The hotel is not far from Bergen, Norway and today is a very popular ski resort. This picture was enhanced by Bob Kelly of Ames. What you see to the left is actually the left pane of a stereograph taken by Martin Morrison while traveling in Norway. I came across this picture when Dennis Wendell, curator of the Ames Historical Society's museum located in downtown Ames. A local Norwegian lady donated this picture that had been given to her mother apparently by one of Martin Morrison's sons. And I am truly grateful to Annalisa Knutsen of Norway for identifying the building in Martin's stereograph! Below are pictures of the back of this stereograph and the front:

Located in Voss, situated between Norway's two largest fjords, the historic Fleischer's Hotel is a popular destination in both summer and winter.

The hotel was built in1889 in the pseudo Swiss style with towers, spires, large dormers and balconies. It is today one of the prominent wooden hotels in Western Norway. Fleischer's Hotel is member of "The Historic Hotels", and is renowned for retaining its original features and tradition. Although it has added new facilities offering top comfort, the Fleischer's has kept its unique style and atmosphere.

Fleischer's Hotel has in the last 100 years established a reputation as one of the most service-minded and traditionally run hotels in Norway. Today is the 5th generation of the Fleischer's family who is running the hotel. The pleasant staff will welcome you and ensure a memorable stay.
